I don't care if I don't get to see all the apps in the folder before I click the icon. When I use XLaunchpad, I love the way the folders are made and how they fly out allowing me to open the apps just like the real launchpad in Mac OS X. I'm just going for a Win8/OS X hybrid look because I like the Metro style, but prefer the application launcher to the clutter of desktop icons. And of course not all of my desktop apps have Windows Store apps. But I digress..

If it's possible, how can I change the image used for the folders instead of the stock folder? If I click "shortcut settings" I can change the icon like any other shortcut, but when I exit the settings pane the icon never changes. I think it's not possible. Maybe a feature to explore on the next version.

which version are you using?
i have 1.0.9.518, and it works for me,

just make sure you press [ok] in the [Shortcut Settings] dialog after choosing image,
it will not save if you press close button

========

edit:
i just checked it again, and found what you mean,
i think you have mentioned the folder that will be used to place xlaunchpad shortcuts inside it,

since there are 2 types of shortcuts in xlaunchpad:
1. real folder: that will point to a real directory
2. folder for shortcuts: that will be a place for xlaunchpad shortcuts

as i said above, the first one is working correctly,
but for second one, i can confirm that there is a bug with it

as a temporary solution:
you can manually change the icon from the icons folder where located in:
Code:
[yourXlaunchpadFolder]\AppData\Shortcuts\Icons\Folders\
